The Wedding Officiant | Peter Otto

The Wedding Officiant Peter otto
Over the years, I’ve spoken with countless couples, and I know that choosing the perfect ceremony often comes with many questions. To make your planning experience effortless and reassuring, I’ve gathered some of the most common questions below — along with thoughtful answers to help guide you with clarity and confidence

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we meet our officiant in-person before our wedding?

Absolutely. You’re welcome to connect by phone or video (Zoom/Meet), and I never charge extra for follow‑up conversations. I want you to feel completely supported and confident as we shape your ceremony together.

What are your rates?

Ceremony fees typically range from $600 to $1,200, depending on the level of customization, complexity, and timing of your celebration. Once we learn more about your vision, I’ll provide a clear and tailored quote that reflects the experience you’re looking for.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A non‑refundable deposit of 50% is required to secure your wedding date. This can be paid by credit card or through an invoice, whichever is most convenient for you. However, most couples prefer to pay in full at the time of their reservation.

How do we apply for our Marriage License?

You'll find everything you need to know about applying for your Marriage License in Orange County here: The City Clerks website, detailed instructions are available on the City Clerk’s website. Please note that your ceremony must take place within 90 days of the date your license is issued.

Who submits the signed Marriage License to the Clerk's Office after our ceremony?

Once all necessary parties have signed your Marriage License, your officiant will take the license and mail it to the Clerk's Office in the envelope that the Clerk's Office gave you when you were issued the license. However, before placing it in the mail, your Officiant will make a copy of the license for his/her records and will happily send you a copy if you'd like. If you would like to obtain your Marriage Certificate from the Clerk's Office in person, please see answer to "What if we need a copy of our Marriage Certificate sooner than 6 to 8 weeks?" below.

Do we need a witness for our ceremony?

If you choose a public marriage license, California requires at least one witness to sign during your ceremony. You may have up to two witnesses, and they must be 18 years or older, though they do not need to live in the United States.
confidential marriage license, however, does not require a witness.
If you need assistance obtaining a witness, we are happy to provide one for an additional $50.
.

How soon after our wedding can we expect to receive our Marriage Certificate?

Processing times vary. Once your officiant mails your license (within 10 days of the ceremony), the Clerk’s Office typically issues the certified Marriage Certificate within 6–8 weeks. During peak wedding season, processing may take longer. Some couples receive their certificate in as a couple of weeks, though this is less common
